Meals SA Style (homes, food, dinner)

For those cooking holiday meals at their homes can you tell me what your local menu is.
I am trying to come up with a different menu for Christmas.

I always do brisket, beans and potato salad for Christmas. We used to do lasagna but my husband won't eat it anymore. I cook the brisket in the crock pot with some smoke flavoring and i use Fiesta pinto bean seasoning with a little bit of bacon for the beans.

I make cake for dessert, either tres leches or whatever sounds good. I try to do something different from the basic white cake, since I seem to make that all year long (not for us, but we always end up eating the parts I trim off).

Smoked ham, shoulder clod, mashed potatoes, sweet rice, devilled eggs, sweet peas in white sauce w/pearl onions.....german potato salad, red velvet cake....other stuff too, but that's what jumps to mind.

Ham, cabbage, sweet potatoes or candied yams, sweet potato pie, pecan pie, pineapple upside down cake, mustard potato salad, corn bread, chitterlings, collard greens, and some other stuff. I don't eat collard greens or corn bread, but that's what my family cooks. I know this menu is very southern/soul food-ish, so it may not appeal to everyone.

Shoulder clod is VERY similar to brisket, but LOTS leaner. Cook just as you would brisket, but be ready for a LOT more meat than you'd get from a similar-weight brisket!

Yeah, my husband's family is all about the brisket. Which makes me sad since it's hard to recreate the holiday meals of my childhood when the centerpiece is brisket rather than turkey or ham. Thanksgiving is a non-issue - it's turkey, mashed potatoes, greenbean casserole, etc. Christmas is more challenging. To me, Christmas dinner means ham. To my husband? Brisket. So we end up doing a Texas Christmas meal and a central Illinois Christmas meal. That way we're both happy!

We do a traditional Christmas day meal but Christmas Eve is all about Mexican food. My mother had it all my life and I've continued. You should have seen me stressing last year because I couldn't find tamales in NC. My husband finally had some made for me but they were so awful I ended up throwing them out. Since I'm not even hispanic and eat Mexican food on Christmas Eve I have to thnk there are alot of people in SA who have some delicious Mexican food on Christmas day as well.

Goose or lamb. We do not like turkey or ham. Single pieces (variety) of cakes - they are big enough to share. Christmas Eve no meat dishes.
