Where do locals go to get their bbq? or steak? or seafood? at decent price around $15 to $25.00 per person.

Where do we look for property with lower property tax. I remember reading somewhere that it has to in a loop. I am not sure if we should be
within or outside the loop. And which loop? 410 or 1604?

Thanks.

I like Rudy's off the 10 for bbq. But I'm not a local (relocated from CA, which is why I say "the 10"). I think Pesca downtown has good seafood. I don't eat steak.

To be or not to be inside the loop, that is the question. It really depends what you like. Outside 1604 is very new, very shiny, upscale chains. Inside 410 is the older areas, the individual stores, the holes in the wall. I'm speaking generally. Personally I prefer inside. I like old houses, funky shops, unique restaurants, and being close to downtown and the airport. YMMV. (PS: inside the loop generally means inside on the north side of downtown. I'm not familiar with the other areas, but they are poorer with higher crime rates.)

As with any city, there are good areas and bad areas. Some are within blocks of each other. Inside 410 is the older, original part of the city. Southside, northside, east or west can all be good or bad. it depends on what you want and where you are going to work, schools, lifestyle.
As for steak, The Little Red Barn on Hackberry is not expensive, is hockey, and not expensive with good meat. All locals, not a tourist area.
Check the sticky at the top on relocation tips, check what others say about local food. If you want more details, provide more details on your wants or needs for relocating.
Enjoy SA, it's all a party.

Thanks for your replies. We will try Rudy's and Little Red barn then. We have been driving around today and we saw some Bob Miller BBQ. We never had a chance to try it because they are closed today. Is the bbq here good too? Any recommendation for good carne asada? We've just arrived and from what we have seen so far, we like it here. Again thanks!!

Definitely try any Rudy's you see (there are several) and pass on all Bill Miller's you see (there are too many)...

I like SEA ISLAND for most seafood, my fav BBQ right now would be AUGIES.

BILL MILLER's is a fine chain, but rather generic, not a true Texas BBQ experience compared to many others.

Investigate and search older threads in this forum, they cover about every aspect of dining in SA. As for Mexican places, smaller is usually better. Have a nice stay!
