Hey!

My husband and I are driving down to SA from Austin (my friend recently moved there and wanted us to meet her after work to head downtown). My question is, what is it like? Are there any bars in the area? What about "drinking in the streets"? I am originally from Louisiana and am used to the Mardi Gras and the very relaxed (on the law enforcement's part) environment that comes with it!

So can anyone provide a little more information about downtown NY eve SA?

Yes, we have New Years, "even" in SA! (JK, teasing about the typo!)

I haven't done the downtown party in a few years, but it is usually set up like a "block party" with streets or areas closed down for the crowds, or held at Hemisfair Park. Outside of the area(s) it would still be illegal to walk around drinking. As far as police, there is a strong presence, and they will put up with a little foolishness, but not much.

There are also lots of bars, clubs and restaurants downtown with parties and events also. Perhaps some other posters can suggest some downtown hotspots.

Hope you have a great time, Happy New Year!

I Know right! After I posted I realized I typed "even"....WHOOOOOPS!

Ah, well I am nearing 30 so I won't be acting like a crazy drunken fool! My main concern is for my husband. He has a hard time staying long periods in the cold so I am hoping that there will be bars to duck into to thaw out a little.

Thanks!

Hmm, I don't remember the bars being inside the main party "area", but again I don't even know where the area is this year (We're having family party at home). I can assure you there will be plenty of body heat and dancing to keep warm with though!

Downtown in general, there arent as many small bars as there are big clubs (most with covers). It's not really like Austin's 6th street for instance.
