I am pregnant with my first, and am having a hard time finding a good OB. Seems like all of the ones I can find info on or have been to are SO rushed and overbooked. Maybe I'm being a little presumptuous, but this seems like not the time to be hurried by a doctor when I have so many questions. My current doctor is with NE OB/GYN Associates, and I was hoping to find a doctor in private practice, rather than these mass practices. I would also like any info on certified nurse midwives, my mother swears by them. I have lived here for about a year, and don't know any women in the area who I can ask. Thanks!

If you interested in using a midwife, check out the documentary "The business of being born". Excellent overview of the whole preganancy/hospital cycle and some footage with current midwives.
I dunno anything on OB since I've never had children but having a midwife in the process seems to be less stressful and more of a personalized experience and someone you can call right away with your questions. At least that's what I got from the documentary.
Congratulations and I'm sure other CD's have their first hand recommendations to give to you.

I've heard great things about the San Antonio Birth Center: San Antonio Birth Center, I'm not sure if the midwives deliver there only or also hospitals but it might be a starting point? I've heard great reviews.

I really like Seven Oaks Women's Center, it's not a private practice, but I've been impressed with all the doctors I've dealt with. They're located in the medical center and practice out of Methodist Hospital.

HTH. Good luck in your search, hopefully others will have advice also.

I don't have any experience with midwives or doulas but I can tell you that I really like Dr. Mark Thompson @ NE OB/GYN Associates. I had Dr. Patricia Brougher deliver my son almost 10 years ago. Dr. Thompson, although with a large practice, always took the time to answer any questions I had (and I had a lot!).

I agree w/pp about NE OB/Gyn. I know you said you go there currently, but I've visited a few drs in town and I have to say they are one of the best practices. Dr King was my ob and Dr Womack delivered my baby. They always took extra time with me when needed and I never felt like just a number.

I'm sold on NE OB/Gyn too. Dr. Farhart has been my doctor for about 17 years. I've always found him to be caring and compassionate and never hurried. Most of my experience was over a decade ago and I only visit him now for yearly check-ups. I've always liked the atmosphere at their offices.

When my first child arrived in the wee hours of the morning almost 16 years ago, he wasn't on call, but one of the other doctors, Dr. Akright, was and he was wonderful. He was very calm and patient. Dr. Farhart was able to deliver my second baby--she showed up at a more reasonable time, in the afternoon.

I really like my Dr. Jennifer Jacobs and have seen several of the other Dr.'s at Lonestar OBGYN. I would recommend her to anyone!

I currently use Dr. Farhart at NE OB/GYN. He's the best! i have seen Dr. Theis (sp?) in the past, and he is very nice as well. I will be seeing him in a few weeks when Dr. Farhart is out of town. I have never waited more than about 10 minutes for my appt. It's been a great experience working with Dr. Farhart as we prepare for our first child.
