Hi everyone , I am considering the Stone Oak area or the other areas closeby. Have prices dropped on 3000 sq. ft houses inthese areas ? Also what is the swine flu situation in these areas, is it of major concern . I know that there is close proximity with Mexico and many Mexicans shop and visit . Is swine flu something to be concerned about ? How are the schools ? Are there many churches ? Ok thanks for your kind responses, Johnny

Swine flu is not a problem - just take regular precautions like hand washing and it isn't an issue at all.

I haven't lived in the NE but I can tell you that San Antonio is a place unto itself - it is a unique city with a unique culture.

There are tons of churches and synagogues and temples and other places of worship; just about any stripe of spiritual experience is available.

No idea about Stone Oak - I'm a rabid inside-the-inner-loop person.

That's funny,
I completely forgot that that even happened,
even though I live in the Schertz-Universal City-Cibolo school district.

I bet I've seen that family at Wal-mart a few times.
BTW, I never take any flu shots, and I'm still ...... uhh ..... hold on.... I'm still around.

Johnny, I am from NYS, lived in western NY for about 15 years before moving to San Antonio, it will be 2 years mid June, but my hometown in NY is about 50 miles north of Manhattan. Spent a good deal of time in Montauk during the summers, so I know the prices you are dealing with on long island

You will be pleasantly surprised here in San Antonio. Housing is soooo affordable. The weather is great. Cost of living compared to NY is wonderful. We are retired so don't know much about schools. Swine flu? I wasn't concerned about it.

This forum is a wealth of information so search and you will find!

Hi everyone , thanks for the good words . I see that it is a good choice to think on. I will give it much thought. I know the weather beats here in NY for sure. We just got through a miserable winter and a horrible hurricane like storm . Most houses got damaged roof, siding etc. including mine. thanks all, John/ the storm wrecked so many houses here.

We just had a "bad" winter here,
I think we went below 32F five or six times.

Not so much in that there was no bubble to begin with, and therefore no crash.

Having lived in the North east( Virginia, SC, NC, Boston) San Antonio is entirely different. Unlike the Northeast where white is the majority, SA is 70% Hispanic, so if your ok with that you won't have a problem. The cost of living is cheap, but so is the majority of the pay, compared to other parts of the US. Plently of churches and various places of worship here. Aside for a few cases of Swine Flu awhile back I haven't heard anymore on it here. It is HOT here in the summere, 90-100's is average and yes the winters are mild. Perhaps a few times it will hit 32, but it never snows, and barely ices over here. SA is very spread out. I live north of Stone Oak towards the hil country and never leave that area, everything you need is right there.
