Hello,

I worked at the VERY FIRST Romano's Macaroni grill in Leon Springs up IH-10.

They had a GREAT Deli in the front of the restaurant where you could buy all sorts of fresh made Italian loaves, meats, cheeses, olives, etc..

Unfortunetly, they flooded and did not reopen that location.

I believe that they reopened around the Huebner Oaks Shopping Center and IH-10, ( I could be completely off base, been in Baghdad for 2 years).

Anyway, I would try Romano's Macoroni Grill, as far as I could tell, when they incorporated and started opening other restaurants, they followed the original so I am betting that all of them have a deli in the front of the restaurant.

GO SPURS SO!!

There are no delis in the newer Maccaroni Grilles.

I always get my deli meats and cheeses at HEB, so I'm not much help. I've noticed that Central Market has a really good deli with more specialty items, and they have a wonderful cheese section. I've heard that the HEB Plus stores also have great deli and cheese sections.

HEB actually has a great selection of authentic Mexican food items, IMO.

You might try going to a family owned Mexican restaurant (one of the small "hole in the walls" and ask them where they would recommend.

In San Marcos there used to be a Jason's Deli a few years back, it is very good as Deli's go in the area. (Fantastic Muffelattas, yum) Good luck!

Jason's Deli is a popular chain Deli restaurant. It's not a Deli like the poster is looking for - where you can just buy sliced meat and cheese to take home.

Macaroni Grill? The home of Italian nachos? I can't imagine anything more vile!! I certainly wouldn't classify this as authentic Italian food.

Try out Spice Rack Deli and Cafe
SAeats.com - Spice Rack Deli Cafe and Grill
They have some good sandwiches.
As far as Deli's you can buy from, the only other place I can think of is Schilo's downtown on Commerce. I usually get Cheese and what not from Sun Harvest or some hole in the wall Asian and Middle Eastern markets.
There's a new place that opened up called Queen's Cottage off Fredericksburg Rd. SAeats.com - Queens Cottage Gift Shoppe, Deli & Pharmacy (http://www.saeats.com/saeats/action/search/viewRestaurant.do?restaurantid=2827&trail=Home,Fin d%20by%20Restaurant%20Name&cs_keys=119,148&cs_valu es=1,1&trailDepth=2&keywords=queens&for=restaurant - broken link) that says they are a Deli, but I have yet to try them.
There's a cool little Mexican market inside the loop off Fredericksburg behind the Big Lots where they have the swap meet every weekend. It's called Fiesta Produce. You can also try out those La Michoacana Markets.
Hope it helps.
Please let us know what you find, good deli's are hard to find.

Las Americas on San Pedro is a Latin America grocery store if you're into that.

I worked for a time at the ORIGINAL ONE. There were no Italian Nachos when I was there.

I do not go out to restaurants very often since I spent many years cooking professionally, I would rather cook at home for 1/3 of the cost.

That is the reason why I did not know that the current Macoroni's Grill do NOT have a deli in the front.

Too bad, the one at Leon Spings had a GREAT SELECTION.
