Alright, I can't figure out what's wrong with my Jeep (and lack of time to work on it). I now need to take it into a mechanic. Anyone have any recommendations for a mechanic or place in SA that is knowledgeable in Jeeps? Specifically the older models...1990 Cherokees....

Thanks,

That would be the last place I'd take a 1990 Cherokee, or any other vehicle that age. Dealerships are only good for warranty maintenance, unless you like overpaying for parts and labor!

Nick, there are numerous shops in town that will work on your Jeep. What part of SA are you in? I'd recommend MD Auto over off of 1560 and 471, just outside of 1604; but any reputable shop will do. Those old Jeeps are pretty straightforward, and it should be well within most good shop's ability to find out and fix the problem...

Cheers! M2

M2, I meant a shop that specializes in dodge/chrysler, not the stealership lol

Yikes my girlfriend had a 1990 Cherokee and I did all the work on it.... fuel pump/gas tank replacement (what a pain in the butt!), replacing battery cables and wiring harnesses/assemblies, main seal leaking, 4x, all kinds of stuff. She bought it from somebody who didn't give a gnat's you-know-what about it... so I bless ya!

After a few horrific encounters with Jeep dealers in SA I started going to Four Wheel Parts on Broadway just outside 410, these guys work on all of my Jeeps...and they're better than any dealership.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys.

I suspect it's a dirty fuel filter and probably need the plugs cleaned/replaced, fuel pump issue. I already tried cleaning the throttle body.

Look up San Antonio Jeep Extreme on line. There was a shop out near Uvalde/Sabinal that was outstanding with older Jeeps but I cannot remember the name. Ask on their forum.

If you don't want to run that far out, I've been taking my 99 Wrangler to Schertz Care Care up on I-35 just south of 1103. They have done a great job on my Jeep as well as my work truck and my wife's car.

I will suggest Mander Automotive in Helotes since it is mechanical. He is awesome and VERY honest.

There is also Brutal Offroad in PipeCreek. He does great work too but he is super busy. If you ever want to put a lift kit on that baby though, he is definitely the person to go to.
He does do mechanical work too and he actually owned an older Cherokee (very sweet ride) and knows all the ins and outs about Jeeps.

Kayser's at I10 & Vance Jackson has several people who are experienced Jeep mechanics all the way back to WWII models. Great folks, honest and outstanding workmanship. I've been very happy with them..
