A friend of mine lived in Temecula till recently. He was fed up with having to spend so much time commuting to/from Rancho Bernardo each day. He had a hard time selling his home, though. After 9 months on the market and several price drops, he was finally able to get it sold. Since then the forclosure rate has jumped dramatically, so I feel sorry for those trying to get out of there now.

Unless your job is in Temecula, the lower cost of housing really doesn't make up for the time lost in traffic which could have been spent with your family. Not to mention the lousy heat there.

Smile Temecula vs San Diego County Teaching Jobs

Hi,

I am a special educator looking to return to San Diego County or Temecula. I am wondering if any fellow educators can inform me of the differences between living and teaching in Temecula vs San Diego County?

Default I agree with socal78.........

I have lived in Temecula for 21 years, originally from San Diego, i grew up here...

I am married with 4 kids, and we are getting the hell outta here next year. The people, the traffic, the people, nothing to do, the people, the traffic........

-We are #1 for foreclosures (riverside County)
-Stucco heaven
-lots of church goers, but mostly hypocrits
-horrendous traffic, at every major intersection..
-UNFRIENDLY rude house poor miserable souls who have constant looks of disgust on their faces.
-People acting rich, off their equity lines to keep up with everyone else.
-Stupid drivers going through wine country (where i live)
-i have never seen so many red light runners in my life!!
-ALOT of people communte, so they come home, pull in the garage and close it, you never see your neighbors, not that you want to.
-Punk ass kids driving like idiots
RUDE RUDE RUDE miserable stay at home moms, that would rather buy toys at Toys R Us, than EXCERCISE or do something with them, and it shows physically.
-The only thing to do here is go out to eat and go to the movies, and it shows.

If you are truly set on living here, buy IN Tmemcula, not French Valley or outter skirts...

Go to the grocery store, at different times of the day, that will tell you the type of people living in the area you are looking in to living.

Be prepared, you will be in traffice to get accross town, if your husband works on the west side of the freeway, and you live on the East (which is usually how it is)

Just my opinion, and i am young 33, and my husband is 37, we are hip, in shape, got to the river and like this heat, and YES it is HOT, it has been 104+ the last week. (thank god for pools) My husband is self employed, a concrete contractor and i am a stay at home mom, with 3 kids under 4!!

I have lived here a long time and have seen this place change into a place i no longer wish to call home, it is sad, 10 years ago, this was great...But we have had HUGE growth, a lot from San Diego and Orangoe County and the attitudes of these people are amazing. I don't know why if everyone moves here for the "cheap" housing, why are they any better than anyone else??

Default We're here in Temecula now

My husband just accepted a job in Temecula (I'm a freelance writer so I can work from anywhere). We rented a house in the Redhawk community and so far, so good.

The house is HUGE. The owner had it on the market for about $635K. It's 3200 sf (4bdrms, 3 full baths and a den). We also have a gorgeous Pebble tech pool and hottub in the back. We're perched on a hill overlooking the valley and it's really NOT THAT BAD. Yes, there are lots and lots of tract homes. But, like the previous poster said I wake up to sunshine, palm trees, bougainvillea and the sound of my pool bubbling.

We are probably in an optimal situation because hubby can actually bicycle commute to work. I can do errands at times when people are at work.

We went to the Pechanga Casino (and we're NOT casino people) on Thursday evening. They have an offer of free Improv tickets right now. It was actually a good show. There is a film festival going on right now and the wineries, etc.

I lived in D.C. for three years and, yes, I loved the culture. But I also only took advantage of it once in a while. When we want culture, we'll head to LA or San Diego for a week-end and do the gallery/museum thing.

The jury is still out, but it beats the DC area by a long shot.

Default Don't listen to the blabbering bashers

It gets over a hundred for maybe a week or two a summer, AC is off by 5pm most days when it is hot.

Regarding culture, it depends on what you want. There are a bunch of bitter nitwits on this board that feel they need to bash the Temecula Valley because it's not West Hollywood. If they want that "culture" then move there. If they want to go club hopping and listen to bad bands and get drunk then go somewhere else.

If you want a smog free, decent schools, conservative (and yes, Christian oriented) populace then Temecula is probably for you. However, there are people from all races, backgrounds and religions that live here and enjoy it.

I have no idea what's up the backside of those guys.

I agree, all these people that make the argument that areas like Orange County and Temecula, etc... have no culture generally don't have kids. I find that areas with lots of "culture" are big metropolitan cities. They want to live in the middle of all the action and be in downtown. Well places like this generally aren't the best for raising a family and they don't get that. In Temecula you aren't far from the culture of big cities anyhow. I think the truth is that these posters don't like the quiet peaceful lifestyle of suburban living, while many families do, which is why they are usually prevalent with them. I don't think there are too many families living in "hip" lofts around all the "culture" on Hollywood Blvd. Posters that have no kids and want to live in culture filled areas are foolish in trying to drive families away from nice suburbs and convince them that big city living is the only way to go.

I have lived all over the place: Chicago, NYC, Minneapolis, Nashville, Atlanta, Mexico City, San Diego, Northern VA and now Temecula. I've had plenty of exposure to culture, city neighbourhoods, etc. Living in suburbia is NOT my favorite place but Temecula is NOT that bad. This place seems to be designed for young families. We dont have kids, but are just amazed at how "kid friendly" it is here.

I'm sorry but "everyone" does not have a "look of disgust on their face" in Temecula. In fact, I've yet to come across one. Everyone has gone out of their way to be friendly to us. We have not one had one experience where my husband or me says, "wow...what a jerk!" Granted, it's been five weeks.

As far as people "acting rich" and "living off their equity lines" (whatever)....I suspect that goes on in almost any city where there is/was a "hot" housing market.

If you think it's bad here, try living in D.C. or NYC where people actually CARE about WHERE you went to college and what you DO for a living. On the east coast, people often SNEER at the mere mention of a school like UCSD or SDSU...and if you arent working in the "power corridors" of D.C. a lot of people wont give you the time of day.

The San Diego area isnt perfect. Unfortuntely, too many people move here without really thinking it through...they seem to think they are going to live on the beach and frolic in the sun and sand all day...not work at the same job earning at least 25% less than where they were living before, often forced to live with roommates because only a fraction of residents can actually buy a home.

My husband is working in Temecula, and has a good job. I can work from anywhere. I'm excited about the lower cost of housing here because we can actually afford a decent house, save for retirement and use extra money to spend long weekends soaking up as much culture as we want in L.A., San Francisco, NYC...

I am glad to see this post from you. I too am looking to move to California & we would like to by a house within the next year. We are city folk from nyc now livng in center city Philly in a luxury loft we have two yorkies are in our early to mid 30's and would like to start a family soon. I like you am not in love with the idea of suburbia I'm Brooklyn born my husband is however more accustomed to suburbia being from Jackson NJ orginially. What appeals to me about Temecula is the kid friendly atmosphere and the prices of the homes. We really don't want to spend more than 600k for a home. We would also like it to look like somethingTruthfully I'd like to stay under 500k b/c I have very expensive shopping habits. It sounds like this can be done in Temecula. Are the accepting of racial diversity there? We are an interracial couple. I don't think that should be a problem in SoCal. It never has been when we have travelled to OC, LA or S.D. but I thought I'd ask.

Default murrieta

Hi there!! We live in Murrieta and are San DIego transplants. WE moved here 9 years ago when it was small town but now that is not the case. The schools here are excellent and the growth and economic development is incredible. I love the temecula murrieta valley and cannot say that temecula is better or worse than murrieta as I love them both. I can say that Temecula has the business infastructure and therefore all of the good restaraunts so if you don't want to deal with horrific offramps on the freeway and the supporting main roads move to Murrieta. My children have thrived in this rapidly growing school district and they are building their third high school. We live on the West side of Murrieta (west of the 15) where property values are higher. I would say to stay away from the "French Valley" area of Temecula and Murrieta as the home prices are falling and the neighborhoods are not as well maintained. I am on this website primarily because we are being relocated to Northern Georgia after living in California our whole lives. WE are sad to leave this awesome area but we are looking at this as a new adventure. Our home will be on the market in a week and it will be listed at a very reasonable price as we are relocating (4bdr, 3ba bonus room, pool upgraded ) just thought I would throw that in there

Good luck. And I would never hesitate to buy in this area. If things don't work out in Georgia this our home we would return to!
