Hi all,

My wife, daughter, and I are thinking of taking a trip down to the Inland Empire to check out the area around Lake Arrowhead and Idyllwild. What are the current snow conditions like and are there any forecast for snow during the Christmas holiday?

I would love to drive our Dodge Challenger (new model not the classic 70's) down there and up and around on the curvy mountain roads. FWIW, we are coming down from Modesto,Ca. However, if there is going to be any snow on the roads, that would be out of the question (lots of torque and slippery road do not make a good combination).

We plan on staying for five days, to check out both areas on then do a Disneyland trip around the 1st of the year. This would be our way of looking at potential retirement home properties and getting a little family vacation in at the same time.

Any weather reports and forecast would be greatly appreciated. Plan "B" would be to rent a four-wheel drive if necessary. Not as fun, and more expensive, but better than a waded-up Challenger.

Happy Holidays!

Hi CA4Now,

Thank you for the link. I have checked the various ski resorts to try to get an idea of what the snow conditions are like, but since I've no plans to go skiing, it only gives me a rough idea of what the area might be like. Consider too that many of the resort create their own snow which could give you the false impression that there's more snow in neighboring towns than there really is.

What I was really hoping to get is an assessment from residents of Lake Arrowhead (and surrounding areas) and Idyllwild what it's like in their neighborhoods. Which likely will NOT be the same as higher elevation ski resorts.

We have a "slight" chance of snow this friday the 12th but other than that we are as dry as a three year drought condition can be.

I looked at the site. It is such a shame there is no snow. I really want to take the family up there. Maybe Big Bear has snow?
