Hi everyone! :-)

My husband may be getting a job in Ontario. We are from Michigan and are looking for an area around Ontario that is safe, family friendly with good schools. (Kids are 6,4 & 1)

Thank you so much for any insight you can share! :-)

Try Rancho Cucamonga, La Verne, Chino Hills, Phillips Ranch, and Claremont.

Stay away from anything east of the 15 Freeway unless you go far out to Redlands. Also definitely avoid Pomona and most of Ontario.

Also Upland, San Dimas, Corona and maybe Eastvale.

A word about "Rancho Cucamonga". It isn't all the same all through town. Go for Alta Loma (91701,91737) or Etiwanda (91739).

Keep in mind there are four K-8 school districts within Rancho Cucamonga and compare them. Also the HS district is Chaffey Joint Union, which has at least 8 schools, and the varying levels seem to be based more on the composition of the student body and parents than anything else.

+1 for Eastvale (excellent schools, freeway accessable) and Chino Hills. I'd also add Chino (College Park or Preserve) which have great schools and family focused amenities. I'd skip. Corona because the 15N in the morning is awful.

Ontario is a good job location. It's close to a lot of nice cities... Chino Hills, Corona, Rancho Cucamonga, Upland, etc.

Good stuff on the Los Angeles County side too... Diamond Bar, Claremont, La Verne, Walnut, etc.

Avoid Pomona for sure.

Ontario has some nice areas especially on the north side near Upland. Especially between Mountain and Euclid. Some areas are nicer than Upland.

The thing to remember is you can't generalize entire cities. Most have good or bad areas including Pomona and Rancho Cucamonga.
