Hello,
Wondering if anyone can offer some opinions as to communities in the Coachella Valley that would be a good fit for a single, 52 yo, active, RN. I like hiking, ukulele, meditation, dogs, swimming/water, reading/book clubs, yoga, working out, theater, good food and drink and would like to learn to golf. I enjoy diverse populations, (or not) and all ages of people. Walkable areas would be nice and am not a nightlife person but enjoy wine tasting or a beer at a pub.
Any advice appreciated-thanks.

Since you are 52 and active, I would suggest Palm Desert.

There is a hiking trail called Bump n' Grind at the nearby mountains. Unsure about book clubs, but every weekend the College of the Desert in PD hosts a street fair on campus, if you're into that kind of thing. Palm Desert also boasts some great restaurants, such as Casuelas Cafe and The Palms Cafe. As for you having a fascination for dogs, the Coachella Valley IS dog-friendly! On occasion, you can see lots of dogs with their owners at some great parks in the city, such as the Palm Desert Civic Center Park. They even have ponds and ducks there! Palm Desert also has excellent golf courses, but personally for me, I'm not too fond of them.

One of the downsides of PD is, well, it's hot... Okay, make that EXTREMELY hot! Another downside is that this city relies in Southern California Edison (SCE), which is considerably more expensive than Imperial Irrigation District (IID). Not only that, but for some reason SCE experiences more power outages! If you want to live in a city that has some of the similar aforementional activities/amenities, choose La Quinta! It relies on IID, thus it has lower AC/utility costs.

One more thing: I wouldn't suggest looking into Indio, Coachella, Cathedral City, and definitely NOT Desert Hot Springs (DHS), for your safety's sake. Palm Springs isn't bad, just avoid the northern end of the city. As well, if you don't mind paying higher taxes, and still want to have similar amentities PD and LQ have, then try Rancho Mirage or Indian Wells. But, who can EVER afford to live in either?!

I hope all of this has helped, at least somewhat. Good luck on your search!
