Hey guys,

Ive been working out a business plan to open a hardcore gym and I am not considering where to open it at. Riverside has a large population, but im curious what my fellow locals think. Do you guys feel like there is a lack of gyms? The gym would be for serious training, but of course everyone would be welcomed.

Thanks Guys

In the mid 1990s, I used to go to what you call a hard core gym in Riverside. It was located on the north side across the the street from the RIverside Plaza at the corner of Merrill and Riverside Ave behind Market Broiler and Marie Calender, it was called Spectrum Gym and was AWESOME.

All the heavy hitters in the area would go there, it was common to see Troy Zucalatto working out next to you. It was a no nonsense gym for strength training and body builders. The owner, Rory, was famous for kicking people out of the gym when the thought it was a hookup gym, "YOU WANT TO PLAY THE DATING GAME, GO TO 24 HR FITNESS"!!! Then he would say their membership was done and stand at the front door with the door open.

Personally, if you build THAT gym, I would go and I live in Hemet. Just to have a no nonsense gym without all the trendy juice bars and man bun spin cycle and yoga nonsense would be refreshing.

No idea where you should build it but if you name if Spectrum, you would have a core group of people in their late 40s and 50s, lined up to sign up.

Any Idea what happened to spectrum of the owner? Do you happen to know the owners last name?

He sold Spectrum, a money making, positive cash flow business to buy one of the many Gold's Gym franchises and went bankrupt. I thought his name was Rory, but that may be gym owners name of a place I went to in Moreno Valley.

What I do know, it was THE place for body building and power lifting. The owner was a former bodybuilder too.
