We are a couple in NJ considering buying a house in Sun City/ Shadow Hills in Indio. I have a cousin with a house for sale in the community. We would use the home as a second home for the next few years, then possibly retire there. My concerns are "fitting in" a new community and whether the houses there are constructed with earthquake-proofing measures. I also worry about crime, the community is gated--is that enough of a deterrent? The price is right for us and the opportunity comes at a good time...but I am hesitant. Thanks for any advice.

RE: the "fitting in." We are both in our mid-fifties. Husband is Jewish, I was raised RC, and study Buddhism. Not really golfers, and I know that might be a drawback. I give genealogy talks. Both of us are lawyers--any need for more lawyers there? LOL

I don't think you have to worry about crime at Sun City Shadow Hills. You will fit in. We have a lot of lawyers in the valley - including yours truly (and husband). I believe everything in CA is constructed with earthquakes in mind, otherwise they'd never pass inspection.

Dear Deborah,

We own a home in SCSH as a rental (not age qualified yet) It's a Wonderful place to Visit for Vacation or as a permanent residence!
It's Resort Lifestyle living at it's best... Chartered Clubs, Championship Golf, Fitness Center, Tennis, Billiard Room, Bocce, Social Activities, etc... We Sold my Mother and Father in Law a home in SCSH over 4 years ago, they constantly Thank us for introducing them to the community. They have made many friends and are so active, they are now Permforing in Choirs, Plays on a regular basis! There is something for everybody. It's a gated community, with roving security patrols. I'd recommend installing an alarm system for the peace of mind, especially if you are going to be a vacation owner. Sure, they could use some lawyers... how about offering Living Will services, start your own Genealogy Club!! The possibilities are endless, mid fifties is great... this is a "Younger" Active Retirement Community, I believe the average age currently is 57 years young! Moderator cut: Realtor Advertising is against the TOS
Hope to have you as a neighbor, soon!

We have a beautiful San Miguel model in Sun City Shadow Hills, Indio. We have been advertising this home for rent in Craig's List in various cities without any success for the last 12 months. The only responses we get are from scammers.

Any input will be appreciated.

Thanks

Default SCSH Rental?

We are renting a condo in Rancho Las Palmas (Rancho Mirage ) on golf course (10 ft from cart path) for the month of Nov and interested in renting for next Nov in SCSH. We found this exceptional condo with tile floors, granite, s/s appliances and everything upgraded for $2900 for Nov.
What are SCSH rates for similar? Doug
