Born and raised in So Cal (South Bay, beach cities) here, and I think if there is ever a time to take the chance there it would be your situation. Living as a single person on a junior attny salary will not be an issue if you keep your expenses low and you'll have the freedom to experience the wonderful weather, scenery and everything CA has to offer. Once you have a family and kids it becomes almost impossible to live in a nice area with good schools on a reasonable salary with a reasonable commute. That's why I ended up moving to the east coast, but I definitely miss my single, CA law school days!! Good luck!

If you're goal is to live beachside in Playa Del Rey, then sure, you'll be in trouble.

Lol, I live in Calif and dont see 80k in 2 years in my line of work!

I grew up in Corona and I also remember the orange groves ....those were the days ....I now live on the east coast but I still visit and keep in regular contact with old friends. While it may have been difficult to be able to afford southern California 5 years ago, as I'm sure you already know, home prices have greatly decreased. If I was to move and buy it would be now - you know what they say, buy low ... sell high. You could live just fine on 80k in Corona, now LA, maybe not so much. Regardless, if it was me, I would live within 30 miles of my job, even if I had to downsize from a 3000 sq foot home to a 1200 sq foot condo.
