I know there are lots of positive aspects to San Diego (SD). But what about the following…

What is the weather really like in SD in the summer? Per the weather stats online, the summer weather looks mild and pleasant (70s). Most of the threads discuss the year-round pleasant temperatures in SD, but some threads talk about how HOT it gets in the summer. Most say it’s fine if you stay by the ocean, but if you go inland 5 or so miles, it gets really hot. How hot is hot, and how far inland from the beach do you have to go before it gets hot? (To me, hot is in the high 80’s and above.)

Also the online stats show the air quality to be very poor in SD. Does it get smoggy in the summer? How noticeable is it? What about other times of the year

The congestion is also noted. The population density of a little over 4,000 per square mile doesn’t seem that congested. Is it the tourists that make SD seem congested? Are there always lots of tourists in SD or is this mainly in the summer? Does the city and do the beaches get packed with tourists?

How does SD compare to Ventura? I know Ventura is much, much smaller. The online stats show the two areas to be very similar in climate, cost of living, economy, and population density per mile. I assume there are more jobs available in SD just due to its much larger size.
