So my hubby and I are thinking of relocating to the San Diego area. He will be working at the casino in Alpine but I need some suggestions on where to live that is safe and a nice area. We only need a 1 bedroom apartment but it MUST have a garage for his harley. I don't want to spend more than $1500 a month.....any suggestions? He doesn't mind a commute! Thanks in advance!

Have you considered living in Alpine? It's a nice safe area.

Here's an example rental w/garage: Free Garage, Water & Trash. Move-In Special. A Nice Brand New Apartmen (http://sandiego.craigslist.org/esd/apa/2272471433.html - broken link)
Your hubby would have a 10 minute or so commute to Viejas Casino.

Are there any other needs you may want? Alpine is a nice area in of itself. It is higher in elevation so warmer summers and cooler winters are in store over there.

When I did an apartment search I didn't find much that fit our needs. I will go at it again! Thanks! I think the biggest thing "messing" me up is the garage! Stupid motorcycle! : )

You're going to love that Harley out here. Especially riding up the coastal highway.

Some good clubs too: San Diego HOG

HE will love it! I don't ride it! I won't even touch it! : ) Why do you think we are considering making this move? We are in St Louis now so he can only ride a limited amount of time of the year. I think our other issue is our dog.....we may just have to pay more to have the BIG dog and the garage!

He will love riding out here. Maybe you can get a nice smaller bike or scooter and join him
If you live in the mountains he will have to worry about snow and ice, otherwise the weather for riding around here is as about good as it gets. weather.com has a good feature called "averages and records" so you can make sure where you live has a good microclimate. Alpine also get some high wind warnings which is a consideration when you are on 2 wheels. When we moved out here we drove through Alpine in the car during one of these storms (50-60 mph gusts)and there is NO way a bike would make it through there.

A friend and his wife have a Hog. They ride everywhere together on that bike. Matching shirts too. Her shirt says something like "His Hog... my job!" His shirt says something like "If you can read this, the B*tch fell off!"

Yeah my hubby always talks about that shirt! I am just not a biker gal. They scare me! I do know that he is VERY excited about moving there just for the bike riding weather!

If you don't mind a more rural setting, then I'm with others who have suggested looking into itself. And actually, it's a straight shot down the 8 and only about a 30 minute drive to downtown San Diego from there. A plus for your husband is that he will have the open roads to ride his Harley on during his days off!
