I was down at the game on Saturday evening against the Dodgers, and I am not joking when I say it appeared to be 90% Dodgers' fans in and around the stadium. During the game, more fans are booing and heckling the Padres than they are cheering for them. You may be thinking this is because we have a such a weak roster this season with a bunch of no-namers, but I can tell you that is what happens every time the dodgers come to town. Nearly the same thing happens when the Raiders come to town.

Is this surprising? I once read a statistic that over 30% of Chargers' season ticket holders are from Orange County alone. Thinking back on how the Clippers left San Diego for Los Angeles, the Chargers threatening to leave to Los Angeles, and more Dodgers' fans at Petco during our biggest rivalry... it all really leaves me thinking about what kind of sports town San Diego is... it's pathetic and embarrassing. I have always said that San Diegans would rather go surfing and smoke pot than support any of our teams, but this is just getting ridiculous.

100% exaggeration in this thread! How many fans did you beat into a coma in the parking lot?

I'm not exaggerating. I am born and raised in San Diego. Hate LA with a passion. Just making an observation that 90% of the fans were Dodgers'. Why do you think that is?

The past two years were horrific with attendance at Petco as opposed to the "good old days" when the credit market was booming. The Pads have done pretty well since Petco was put in, so I cant say it was because we were losing for the attendance loss.

When I lived downtown, the most out of town fans I would see were: Giants, Dodger, D-Back. All of these teams I can understand. When I would see intraleague games, the Red Sawx and Met fans would come out of the woodwork.

On the whole, I cant blame the Dodger fans coming to SD, why wouldnt they? Its LA, I would look for any excuse to get out too

I say lets check this thread back in a month after opening day newness wears off to see what "normal" attendance looks like. I dont think it will be pretty.

The Pads are back to their no offence/pitching, losing ways which is no way for Moorad to line his coffers. Where have you gone Gonzo (with respects to Joe D)? Baby Gwynn played great. Yes, the Dodgers fans are annoying. 90% is indeed a large overestimate, but your point is valid.

So you honestly think that of the 43,000 there, that more than 37,000 were Dodger fans? No way. Were they louder because their team was winning? Yes. Do LA fans tend to be louder, drunker, and more obnoxious than SD fans? Hell yes. But was Petco 90% LA fans? No way.

I know with some older Dodgers fans, my mom being one, there were no Padres to root for. When SD got it's team, many loyal to the Dodgers remained that way. In Baseball, I believe the Dodgers are the most liked west coast team, they have fans everywhere.

Maybe the Padre's fans are afraid that the Dodger Thugs will beat them up for no reason...
