We are moving back to So Cal this summer. We've been away for 6 years. I'm a teacher and my husband is a general contractor. I would really like to be in the Temecula /Murrieta area. It has decent schools and is more affordable than the decent areas in SD. We don't want to pay more than $1500 a month for rent. My husband thinks it is too hot and that there is not enough construction going on. Please share your opinions

You can rent a decent place in the Temecula area for your budget:
Open House Saturday - Four Bedroom + Loft (http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/apa/2338372621.html - broken link)

The Inland Empire ain't a bad place to live. July & August is hot but the rest of the year is quite nice. Sure beats Phoenix or Las Vegas. And you're only about an hour from the beach.

I'm not sure the I'd consider Menifee as being in the Temecula area and the house posted is $200/mo over the poster budget.

We've rented out our 3 bd/2.5 bath/with loft in harveston for about $1900 a month - this was the recommended rent per our prop. management co. so I'm guessing it's pretty competitive

I think that construction has slowed quite a bit up there - unemploment is preety high in the area and seemed to be a lot of inventory too.

Your husband might want to look into Camp Pendleton, it seemed that they had received funding for several big projects to built on the base.

We're recently relocated to Otay Ranch. It seems like construction ground to a halt here but seems to be picking up again (models reopened and land being graded).

He likes the Otay Ranch area too. Most of his family lives in Chula Vista and he has a lot of former contacts. I just haven't been able to find rentals in our price range that far south that don't look like a dump...

We've been down here (Otay Ranch) for a couple months and it's been nice so far. We originally thought of renting but but decided to buy instead.

My biggest complaints so far have been that the Farmers Market at Otay Ranch doesn't seem to have many "farmers" and there isn't much in the way of "charactor".

$1500 for a decent single family home is a little low. Maybe a nice townhome or condo.

Here's one close to your budget in Rancho Bernardo:

We can't do a condo or an apartment. As a GC/woodworker my husband has a tad more than a tool box or two...We have to have a garage.

Most people are trying to make it out of the Inland Empire area to somewhere better.

I doubt whether you'll be able to find $1500 in San Diego that's not an apartment or condo. Not unless it's a dump. Your best bet is in Murrieta/Temecula. I know a friend pays $1500 for her rental... it's a 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath detached house in Temecula.
