Husband and i are moving to SD soon and we'll be working near Miramar College and Sorrento Valley. (Mira Mesa Blvd, near 15 and 805 fwys)
We're currently living near norwalk and paying 900 rent. from the looks of it, that's not happening in Sorrento Valley anyone know what the equivalent neighborhood in la would be?

can probably afford to go around 1200-1400 now, but would obviously appreciate something lower. what are some good places to check out near that area?

we're looking for someplace quiet, with a decent commute (i'd love to say goodbye to my hour commutes), safe area, within reasonable distance of grocery stores & those essentials. a park and public transit access would be nice, but not a must.

It sounds like you want Mira Mesa as it is immediately adjacent to both Sorrento Valley & Miramar plus it will be the best bet for affordable housing in that part of town.

IMO, Mira Mesa will get you the most bang for your buck.

12-1400, you're gonna get a 2 bd 1 bath at most. There are a couple for rent in PQ for around $1300 1 BA PQ Townhouse w/ Newer Kitchen and Carpet Applainces

Yep. That's my area.

Mira Mesa is your best bet.

I agree with djexpress that a 2 bdr 1 ba is the best you'll get and you'll have to search that out pretty well. My 2/2 in Mira Mesa is $1500.

Penasquitos is also a good choice but I wouldn't go further than that due to traffic on the 15 - although you could take the back roads BUT in my experience they take almost as long due to the lights.

Mira Mesa has all the shopping you could need for the most part. Public transportation in San Diego in this area is not good (IMHO San Diego is a car city - unless you live and work on the trolley line or you LIKE riding buses for hours a day - forget about it and focus on your other needs). The bus from one end of Mira Mesa to the other isn't too bad - but it's not anything super convenient. San Diego is nothing like East Coast cities that have decent public transportation systems.
