Hey all,

I'm looking for a gym; preferably one that has lots of classes, machines, free weights, etc, and is CLEAN. A pool would be nice and so would daycare/babysitters to watch my son while I work out. Any suggestions?

Mission Valley YMCA. Access to 4 different facilities, and the one on Friars and the Toby Wells gym up by Clairemont Mesa Blvd both have day care.. Pools at 2 facilities. The Toby Wells gyms is nice and new, the Friars road location is a little older but still has modern equipment and is clean. If you're into it you also get access to the Hazard Center location which offers like a bazillion yoga/pilates/etc classes every week.

The YMCA's are the only "gym" with childcare. People go the gym to get away from their kids, and a gym isn't interested in paying a babysitter.

ha ha, moved. I understand that people don't want to work out with their kids. That's why I want someone to watch him instead of leaving him home alone Considering he's all of 10 months old.

I'm surprised more gyms in San Diego don't have on site child care. It's usually more common in big cities. Oh, well, I will check out the Y!

I can't see 24Hr Fitness, LA Fitness or other large gym chains paying someone for onsite childcare, and I guess they're not interested in having it, or they would. I've never heard of it outside of the Y's.

The YMCA in Oceanside is really really nice. You get 1 hour 45 minutes, per day, of free childcare while you work out.

Actually this is not correct. I'm not sure of all the 24 Hour Fitness locations but my wife goes to the one near Rancho Peñasquitos sometimes and they do in fact have babysitter services while you work out.

She only has used it one time when I had meetings and couldn't watch our son. But they only charge something like $2 for it or something really cheap. She said it was full so sounds like many mothers are utilizing it.

Hopefully she's found a gym by now, since she asked about it 6 months ago...

You never know how long people put off going to the gym until New Years rolls around.

For anyone else searching for a gym with child care and turned up this thread, LA Fitness meets all of carichen252's requirements. We've been using their services for over three years now, and we're pretty happy with the quality of the staff hired to watch the kids.
