It will be our first 4th of July in San Diego and was wondering if we are allowed to set off our own fireworks at a park or a beach.

I know there has been a lot of controversy over Sea World setting off fireworks and how it pollutes the bay *rolling eyes*. Not sure how that ties into personal fireworks.

No. All fireworks are illegal. Every single one of them.

You need to move to Indiana if you want to set off your own fireworks.

They've been illegal for years, but you will hear, and see, plenty of them on the 4th (also on New Year's eve)

I think they've even banned the sparklers. Have they banned the Black snakes too?

California is hardcore about ensuring that people not have fun on patriotic holidays. I think it has something to do with the bulk of our political leadership coming from the San Francisco/Berkeley area.

I think it has something to do with the fact that this state is a tinder box. I am very glad that your right to play with explosives doesn't supersede my right not to have my house burnt down.

It's legal in Sacramento and it was always a shock each year I lived there to see all the fireworks booths. I had lived where they were illegal for so many years I never got used to them being legal.

this and the fact that for whatever reason the people that like to set off their own fireworks tend to be society's least responsible and drunk citizens.
