Wow! I realize how much I still have to learn! And I thought I was doing well for a transplant.

Things I noticed when I moved here. We prefaced major highways w/"I", for example I-95. Here the major highways are called "the", the 8, the 5, the 94.

Everything here is "awesome".

People here can toss "right on" into a sentence as quickly as the rest of the country tosses in "uh huh" .

I liked the comments about the weather report. Being a weather forecaster here, must be the world's easiest job.

From an observant tourist:

1. You don't pronounce Ensenada and Encinitas the same way.

2. You say marine layer instead of smog.

3. When your visiting relatives go to Mexico for a day you hug and kiss them
like you are never going to see them again.

4. You tell visiting relatives that rattlesnakes and coyotes don't bother humans.

5. You tell visiting relatives that there are many good Italian restaurants in the area, but can't name one.

6. You tell visiting relatives that you can't imagine why they want to go to Hollywood Blvd. to see all the weirdo drug addicts with pink hair.

7. You can't explain to visiting relatives why it's only 63 degrees in April, after
you told them just to pack shorts and a bathing suit.

8. You are embarrassed to tell visiting relatives that you can't drive them five miles to Wal-Mart because the traffic is too heavy.

9. You always say you like it cold indoors, but the real reason your house is cold is the high electric bills.

10. You never tell visiting relatives that if they drive to Palm Springs or even Escondido there is no marine layer, no wind, and it's twenty degrees warmer in the spring!

1. You can remember when the "Q" was a station Happy Hare was on.

2. You remember who Capt Sticky was.

3. You can remember when we were "The City in Motion" instead of gridlock.

4. You know who "Biff" and "Skippy" were.

5. You remember when Mad Jack was always having a sale.

6. You know what "Homegrown Albums" are.

7. You remember when you were glad to live in a laid back city instead of someplace like the LA Area.

8. No one fit for office ever becomes your mayor.

here's some more:

1) you know why "Silk Stalkings" was the best show ever on the USA network.
2) you know by heart that Pearson Ford stands alone at "______", and El Cajon.
3) it gives you a sense of pride in your city that people have the decency to only rarely deface the murals in Chicano Park, or that awesome painting in PB on a wall located near the corner of Garnet and Cass.
4) you want to wring the neck of George Pernicano for being stubborn about the property located in Hillcrest.
5) it bugs you to see open spaces you used to spend time in, or a friends old childhood house, bulldozed to make room for sprawled condo and townhome complexes.
6) you wish the Soledad Cross opponents would just give it a rest once and for all.
