okay i guess i see how you hit him.

i will say i drive a jeep wrangler with large tires and sit up higher than any mini van and have never had a problem seeing a car when reversing.

it does suck when your insurance rates sky rocket. i know that all too well from experience

Yeah, it does, but by going through an insurance agent this time, I was able to get a really good rate, even with the fender bender. The company also has free roadside assistance, so I'm doubly covered since I also have AAA.

I can understand backing up into someone. We were at Walmart and backing out of our parking space to go home. We have a backup camera and my hubby was driving but even then he asked me to also look behind and help check whether it's clear (we do this because Walmart is just too crazy so we help each other out). It was and we started backing out slowly. All of the sudden, we hit something and we were like, "What was that?!" Turns out we hit a car! That wasn't there in the first place. And she was on her cellphone! We suspected that she got into her car after us and then just zoomed out of her parking space while on her cellphone. Seriously, she wasn't there when we looked and when we started backing out.

there is some ridiculous statistic that a large majority of accidents happen in parking lots.

anyways, if you two were to have gotten your insurance companies involved i bet you would have been held liable because you backed into her.

the mitigating factor may have been that she was on her cell phone and was distracted

Well, I would advise everyone, whenever possible, park in a manner so YOU DON'T HAVE TO BACK UP when you leave. Even if it means parking a little further away from the mall.

I wasn't leaving, and I wasn't in a mall. I was in a medical building parking lot.

My advice still stands....avoid parking in a manner that will force you to back out whenever possible.
