I did hear a thud but I thought it was someone dropping something heavy on the floor. I didn't pay any attention to it.

10News confirmed: "On Friday evening, Lt. Aaron Kakiel, a spokesman for Naval Air Forces Pacific, told 10News that two F/A-18 fighter jets from the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson caused two sonic booms that were heard and felt around the county."

I thought I felt something. But I thought it was a neighbor dropping something -- the building I'm in shakes whenever someone walks heavily, let alone drops something.

I don't know about routine, but I'd think that it would happen more often....

IIRC they used to. But enough windows got broken and people complained that the military made it "against the rules". So my guess is that a couple of their pilots were hot-dogging.

Maybe they're filming the sequel to Top Gun. I heard that Tom Cruise will have more time on his hand soon ;-)

It shook our house down south of SDSU. At first I thought earthquake but it was sooo short. Then in the paper this morning I saw it was a sonic boom courtesy of a Navy air show taking place at sea.
