I'm looking to get back into tennis and was wondering what the best public courts (least busy) are in the area? I've looked online and a few of the public courts listed are at high schools/elementary schools. Is the public allowed to go and play on these courts during school hours?

I used to play on the University City High School tennis courts after 12pm on Saturdays. There's a class that reserves the courts from 9-12, but they should be free afterwards.

There are 3 courts in the North Park Community Park which don't usually see a lot of activity.

Miramar College has 8 courts, but they're extremely busy during weekday evening.

There are also several courts on the UCSD campus. Parking may be problematic unless you come during the weekends when it's free.

If you're considering a club membership the cheapest options are the University City Racquet Club ($190/yr) or the Balboa Tennis Club ($300/yr).
