I'm looking into moving to the San Diego area sometime in the next year or two, and I'm kind of at a loss on where the best places to live around there are, so I'm looking for some input.

About me:

Age: 23
Gender: Male
Relationship: Single
Personal Transportation: Bicycle, walking

What I'm looking for:

Close to major shopping/work areas
Relatively quiet and safe
Large percentage of younger people (in their 20s/30s)

Convenient Benefits:

Close to public transit routes

Price isn't an object right now; I'm just getting a sense of where I might want to start looking for a place to live.

Line up a job first, then think about where you want to possibly live. Things will change in the next year or two.

Hillcrest would be a good place for you. Lots of places to walk and bike.

PB if you don't mind the Bros
OB if you don't mind the Hippies
North Park if you don't mind the Hipsters
Little Italy/DT if you don't mind the Yuppies.

Also, look at UTC/La Jolla area. Especially if you're still in school, that or PB might be your best bet.

Take your pick Brah!

Beach areas are perfect but are really expensive and come with horrific noise, traffic, and petty crime issues. Look at South Park, North Park, or HillCrest (warning...HillCrest is a gay area, but has a good mix of straight people, and is a pretty awesome place).
If you want to just bike around, party your butt off, and meet lots of hot chicks, then move to PB and don't look back. But outside of bars, the ocean, and women, the beach towns suck in every single other aspect, especially price and condition of rentals.
