I'm driving a large motor-home from San Diego to Oxnard next week, and need advise on the safest route of travel. Planning on a week day and was lookiing to leave around 9:00AM. Appreciate your thoughts. dg

Do you have to drive at 9am?

I had to drive to/from Van Nuys last year and some LA friends recommended I-15->91->71->57->110->134->101. It had to be the easiest trip to LA and back for me ever.

You mentioned Oxnard, so a similar route might be good.

Personally, I would drive overnight if I had to take a motor home that far and in that kind of traffic.

I agree. LA freeways are crowded all day, every day. Overnight would be much less congested, and the route that futbol provided takes you around the worst of the traffic.

Even when I'm driving a small subcompact car, I NEVER drive through LA during the day. I always plan my trips between 8pm and 6am - ALWAYS.

I do an end run all the way around it and time it to hit about 3 am. Unless you've been a trucker you want to avoid that mess at all cost. Sleep when you get there. 210 all the way up through simi valley.
