I have a new job in Chula Vista. While visiting, I fell in love with Coronado island (and yes it is expensive), but it is the kind of place I am looking for. I've tried Craigs List, and apartmentguide.com and roommate sites, etc, but I'm striking out. I don't know the area so I want something temporary until I figure out the best place for me. I am married (hubby will not be with me), triathlete, 45+, African American, professional woman. I am looking for a furnished 1-bedroom in a "community" that is walkable, bikable, and near the water for under $1500. I am open to house-sitting or sharing. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

I don't live there now, but years ago I spent many summers in Coronado. There were very few apartments/houses to rent then, and I doubt that it's changed (after all, it is an island -- there is only so much land LOL). I would think your best bet is to contact a property management company. Type in "California and Coronado Island and property management companies" into your search engine. A few listings will come up. Here's one (that looks very good) to get your started:

Rental Property Management Coronado | Utopia Management

And I wish you the very best!

There just aren't very many apartments on Coronado. It was originally designed as a sea side enclave for the wealthy elite and it has pretty much remained that. Sorry, but the wealthy elite don't do apartments.

Check out Craigslist. You willl find some apartments, but you'll have to increase how much you can pay for rent every month, because you won't find anything for under $1500 per month.

Coronado is beautiful. It is expensive as you noted and you may or may not have to up your budget. Here are a couple of units from craigslist within budget.

Coronado 2bd/1ba

Coronado Furnished 1bed/1ba

Good Luck!
