Try buying some in the ethnic markets, you might it better quality. I never buy produce in any of the chain grocery stores.

it has to be green leaf, unless i get can artisan for a dollar per batch.

i used to get iceberg lettuce but when i started eating healthier learned that green leaf is way better

Go to weekend farmer's markets, there's usually one or two vendors with lettuce and greens that will be superior to the markets you mentioned. In my opinion, the produce offerings of the markets you referenced range from poor to disgusting.

There was a time when you could get crisp lettuce at Vons or Ralphs and not have to feel like a vegan ass-hat shopping at Trader Joes or Whole Foods. Bummer. I haven't noticed in some time, since I stopped eating healthy, as to the crispness of the lettuce out there. But there was a time, that the availability of good quality lettuce, not the crap in the bag, but good lettuce, was available to all, not just the upper class. This is part of a bigger systemic problem and I think you all know what I am talking about.

I only eat mini lettuce. In fact I only eat mini foods of any kind. And artisinal. Artisinal, mini lettuce. That's all I eat now.
