Also, another thing I noticed, rent here is not as bad as everyone outside of California makes it seem. We found that it is about the same as Utah, so that was a pleasant surprise.

Anyways, do you guys have any suggestions for a 24, 23 year old couple to go out and do? Anything we need to check out. We are big into music, so any suggestions places for live music and what not?

Also, any one have suggestions on a place to get a cheap bed from? Not to cheap though, still want to sleep in comfort haha
Glad you finally made it! Hopefully, your honeymoon stage will last a long time. It doesn't get much better than being twenty-something and living in NP. My advice is to jump on some bikes and explore the surrounding areas, from South Park, Downtown, Balboa Park, Golden Hill, Hillcrest, Normal Heights, University Heights. That way, you can find your favorite burger joint, coffee shop and breakfast places. Have fun!

This makes me nostalgic. This is how I got to learn the mid-city and downtown areas so well when I was a newbie, is by bicycle. Especially downtown.

Newbie, remember, to get downtown just ride down Park Blvd (12th) or go thru Balboa Park to 6th Avenue. Morley Field drive is also super fun to haul azz down hillon a bicycle into Balboa Park.

I don't ride my bike as much as I used to , my kids have kinda slowed my roll.

If you plan to visit the zoo, consider getting an annual membership instead of paying for one-day admission ticket:

http://donate.sandiegozoo.org/site/P...ershipBenefits

A membership for two people living in the same household is just slightly higher than the cost of two one-day tickets, and you can then visit all year. Might be useful since you live very close to Balboa Park.

Plus with a membership you can also visit the Safari Park in Escondido.

Another useful tip ... on Tuesdays, certain museums in Balboa Park are free to residents:

Residents Free Tuesdays | Balboa Park

Be sure to visit La Jolla Cove, and drive to the top of Mount Soledad on a clear day. Both are great scenic attractions.

Many, if not all, places like Salvation Army and Goodwill sell mattresses as a required part of their services. Those mattresses must be new (with minor flaws), but you don't have to be 'poor' to buy one. We bought a very nice, brand new (unused) queen-size sealy pillowtop for $200 about 6 years ago. They might be a little more now, but still way under retail. Check it out.

Goodwill doesn't sell mattresses, and has very little furniture. The mattresses and box springs that Salvation Army sells aren't new. They sell used and sanitized mattresses and box springs. I bought a set when I moved into my last place, and it was fine, but this past year it started sagging. I left it behind for my slumlord to get rid of when I moved at the end of last month. But next summer, I hope to buy a new (not used/sanitized) set.

Not all states have restrictions against the sale of used mattresses, and for those that do, the requirements can vary. For example, in some places, old mattresses that have been recovered with new ticking (strong, tightly woven cotton or linen fabric) can be sold as long as they are sanitized or disinfected in some way before sale. In other states, only certain parts of mattresses, such as the springs, can be reused. These rules apply to traditional retailers as well as to thrift, secondhand and consignment shops.

Both Salvation army and Goodwill in my area offer new, un-used bedding at greatly reduced cost. But I can't speak for other states/cities.

I haven't been to a Goodwill store in San Diego that sells mattresses, but some of them have a little bit of furniture. The Salvation Army stores sell lots of furniture, including mattresses and box springs. They have a huge warehouse in the EV, and the store across the street from the warehouse gets the first truck of the day. I buy any furniture that I need from Salvation Army, and all of the furniture that I have, came from there. When I need something, that's where I go, and I always find it.
