I had to come off the Mt the wind is blowing so bad. Everything is so dry it's scary. The two rains we've had so far haven't done anything and I'm afraid we'll have some real bad fires soon. Thoughts?

I'm not exactly sure of this but I think your area has had more rainfall than usual. Not to downplay the fire risk at all, the Santa Ana winds can definitely dry out the fuel in a hurry.

We've barely had any rainfall here for years. We average ten inches of rain a year.

I'd heard that we were going to have Santa Ana's next few days, but didn't think much of it this far past "fire" season. Then I saw on the news that at Heise Park they went so far as to cover up all the fire pits. So they must be quite concerned, for the next couple of days.

They put up the "no fires" signs in all the pits at all BLM campgrounds. One night two girls pulled the sign and were having a fire. When we went to talk to them they said they were "cold". We doused it for them and gave them an extra blanket.

The current Santa Annas are mild and only going to last one more day. There's a nice NW swell running too, so get some surf while conditions are good. Temperatures are not as hot as during the usual fire season (Sept-Oct), and we've got a big Pacific storm coming in at the end of the weekend.

After the long drought, we dodged a bullet this year. The week-long+, 65+mph, Santa Anna events typical of early fall never materialized.

Now if we can just get ENSO going, we could start breaking this drought later this winter!

Last I read the probability was increasing, but it's still not as high as the were predicting earlier in the year. Fingers crossed!
