my mom lives in carlsbad, and there is a giant "new homes" development starting across the street.

before this, her location in a very small community was relatively isolated, and it had a nice view of all the hills they are now totally building on.

now, they are even going to put a traffic light right in front of their little driveway.

my mom and i believe the new homes and the crowding and lost views are going to make her property value go way down.

is there anything we can do?

replies much appreciated, and thanks!

Short answer, no.

I wouldn't worry about your property value too much. Nothing you can do about it other than sell now and move

I'm assuming you are talking about the 'Quarry Creek' development in Calavera Hills?

Property values probably won't drop if there's demand for that housing. It's the newer developments all around Carlsbad that helped give it a more upscale image over the last decade.

You might be able to try NIMBY tactics like complaints about noise or something but you probably missed your best window of opportunity to do something back when the project was still in its planning & review stages a couple of years ago. If you can dig up the environmental reports and find legal flaws, find evidence of corruption by the City of Carlsbad, gather a large enough group of like-minded neighbors and/or make it onto the news with one or more of the above, then you might be able to delay the inevitable.

Settlement reached in Quarry Creek suits | UTSanDiego.com

The concessions were enough to persuade environmental group Preserve Calavera to settle lawsuits it filed against the city for allegedly approving the project without adequate review of its effects on traffic and sensitive land.

That bus has left
