Am I wrong ... thought NYC is the safest metro?

San Diego is best safest city, both crime and violence is going on , little bit of suspicious, imporoving more and more established gangless culture activities

Interestingly unlike LA or other major cities San Diego has hardly any slums either in city center or elsewhere maybe with the exception of areas near the border. Many parts of the city are high wealth bedroom communities.
To me it appears Tijuana and some parts of san Ysidro, National city, and Chula Vista makes up San Diego’s version of south LA.

That is one reason San Diego is nicknamed "San Diokyo" because of it's Tokyo-like level of safety. Tokyo is rated one of the safest cities in the world.

Even though we "proverbially" live up the street in LA, it had been a while since we visited SD for a three day weekend. Stayed in Coronado, but visited La Jolla and Encinitas with local friends. There's a reason why SD is called "America's Finest City." Indeed, it's a well kept city/county.

As for why it's a safe city, well, Saturday afternoon, we were heading back to our hotel in Coronado. There was a massive traffic jam right at the 5FWY to 75HWY interchange. We counted 3 CHP, cars + 2 ambulances + 2 tow trucks and several cars from some local traffic enforcement agency. As we drove by we were surprised to see it was a minor rear end accident. The two involved vehicles could have been driven away. From the looks, all passengers were on their feet. In LA, something as small as this may have gotten the attention of a traffic enforcement agent, and that's it!

Still doubt we can compare with Tokyo or any city in the Far East. San Diego seems to be like Windsor being next to a dangerous city named Detroit. I do here quite a number of times we have people or property that went missing and possibly went over the border which Mexico has loosely guarded for many years.

If someone gone or is lured over willingly no crime has been committed at least on this side of the border.

And San Diego did encounter high profile incidents in the past years some of which had shut down much of downtown and even its airport.

San Diego's crime record tells a pretty good story. There are a LOT of gun stores and related gun ranges here so that nulls any thought that high crime is directly related to firearms.
