I need to install a basic chain link fence (maybe wood) on the back side of my yard. It's about 70 feet across. I have gotten quotes that are around $1900 from 2 companies...tell me that there are cheaper options than this?! Any good companies or people out there that don't charge such high prices?

I've used Alpine fence out of East County for a couple of chain link fences and for an decorative iron gate for my driveway. I have always been satisfied with their qualty of work.

Luckiliy for you I keep good records... I pulled up my last invoice from them about a year ago. I had a basic black chainlink fence installed at the bottom of my property and it looks like it was 55 feet accross and 6 foot high black chainlink.

Total cost at the end of the project was $1550 on the dot.

Do you have neighbor who might split the cost with you? Unless you need the privacy, I would go with chainlink all the way, it lasts much longer. Alternatives for privacy might be hedges or even some nice Hedgelink slats that give the appearance of a green wall.

As a matter of fact, Alpine is coming out next week for an estimate. I've had estimates from Vegas and Bear Fence...both want approx $2k for a 5' chain link fence.

The fence is mainly to keep animals out of my yard, and to keep my dog in the yard, not for privacy. I've been using a jerry rigged plastic fence I put up, but it seems like a rabbit or racoon has been eating a small hole in the plastic to gain access to the yard, as I've had to replace a small 1'x1' patch of the plastic fence.

Since it's directly in back of me and there is no neighbor behind, I can't share the cost with anyone else.

Loop us back in on what they quote you when they come out. Your retaining wall looks clean, either you just had that installed or you took this pic the morning after that rainstorm this weekend. :-)

A rabbit might have a hard time getting through chainlink, but racoons climb so there is no way of keeping them out even with a wood fence. If they want to get in at night, they will. I see them on my property at night time and we are now completely fenced in.

I got my fence done by Alpine Fence. Cost was about $1900, and they completed the job in about 4 hours. I also had to pay a guy about $400 to clear the trees/etc from the fence line prior to Alpine doing their job. So far, I'm pretty satisfied with the fence. It looks good and was lined up perfectly (as I have a dog).

Here are some pics of the final product:

Alpine Fence is great. We've used them twice -- once to do the perimeter of our entire property (several acres) in chain link, and once to do a smaller area in wrought iron and they did a terrific job both times. Hope this fixes your animal issues and keeps your dog in!
