Family moving to San Diego and interested in these four cities. Me and my wife are coming to SD In 2 months and we want to be squared away before. I have lived in La Mesa for 4 months and I liked the area around Grossmont center. We will be making about 4,500 a month and want a 2 bedroom for $1300 month. I know SD Is not cheap. My income will be going up after a few months but I like the vibe of North Park, walkability, night life and the diversity. I like Chula Vista for It's rental prices, being closer to Mexico and the beaches down south. La mesa is central, quiet IMO, walkable, trolley, and have decent $1000 rentals, Hillcrest seems fast paced and fun, close to downtown, walk everywhere, entertainment/ nightlife. Can anyone help me out with this move? I will be working in Central SD but I do not mind a drive if the city has low crime, community activities, biking, parks, good food, diverse, Military/ VA Post, within 20 min to beach, walkable. I know parking and traffic is tough in NP and Hillcrest but we can walk to stores bars and restaurants if we want. Any help will do, retired military from North Carolina.

The median rent in SD is $2000. You should probably read this first before you make the plunge. Those areas you are liking would fall into that category.

I don't know how long ago you lived here, but if you mean 2 bedroom house - I don't think that is possible. I am not sure about apartments, but it still seems low.

1AngryTaxPayer posted the link that has a lot of info about pricing of rents here. Another good idea is to use the search tool and search each are you are interested in. These topics have been discussed recently, so you should come up with current info.

ETA: You already have a thread going about moving : //www.city-data.com/forum/san-d...y-retired.html

1angrytaxpayer, I agree with you as far as the rent avg but there are plenty of areas in LaMesa, NP, and CV that have rentals in the price range. I understand where you are coming from but If I cannot make it we will move to Vegas, but I'm not worried at all. We are staying at the military lodging until we find out place, we are very motivated and the income is the minimum I will receive from the VA Is 2,000 so if I also work at the postal service that $4,500 will change.

Im sorry I did not mean a 2 bedroom, I meant a 1 bedroom 1 bath apt. Maybe that's why so many are doubting our situation. I guess that one is on me. We only need one room until we have a child a year from now. We really just want to experience the urban west coast laid back lifestyle before we start a family. Thanks rainbowhope I will do that as well

Stay in Navy housing until you get a job lined up, and then check out the areas. In another post you stated that you would be working in Chula Vista. What type of job are you interviewing for with the USPS?

Depends If I take the rural carrier job In Chula Vista but I continue to get Central San Diego city carrier calls so It's up in the air. I don't mind the travel but yes living in Navy housing will help me choose the best fit. Right now we are looking into the RV parks for 30 bucks a night on the water until we can find our place. This whole process is crazy due to the fact I do not have a set ETS date to leave the service.

Is this for a casual position? If it is, you'll be all over San Diego.

I see you also have threads about Long Beach and Palm Springs. Just have to ask..how could one person have so many postal job opportunities in SoCal, I thought those positions were very hard to come by, especially with so many local people looking for employment in SD ?

It just seems like this is all over the place. Chula Vista, La Mesa, North Park, Hillcrest, the beaches, Mexico, and it seems other parts of California as well. Are you just throwing darts and hope something sticks? Makes little sense that you would have Military Housing and then throwing out random places all over the map to live and looking for work at other places at the same time.
