Hi, I'm a professional thinking of moving to SD. I WFH, so I bring a job with me. I can swing up to 3,000 on rent (I make over 150), but would prefer somewhere in the neighborhood of 2,500. I'm 30 YO, and love running - I prefer trails if possible. I'm looking for a good neighborhood for a single male, only problem is I don't drink. I live 5min from the beach in South OC now, closer would be better.

I have two questions:
1. Would you all recommend SD?
2. Where would you recommend?

You make over 150k and are single. You can afford more than 2.5k on rent. Look closer to 4k and get a place a block or two from the beach in North County

Encinitas or San Clemente. I'm perplexed as to why you would want to leave South OC since there are trails galore. If your motivation is price, then it makes sense to me. North SD is awesome too. The answer to that motivation question might help to provide a better answer.

Eh, South OC (Laguna/Dana) is pretty terrible for dating - there are very few professional women. You pay many dollars and live in a shoebox.

Spending a third of your gross income on rent is not advisable.

This is southern california. Ask how many households spend a third of their gross income or more on their mortgage or rent...it will probably surprise you. Don't like it? Move someplace cheaper or further from the beach.

A co-worker of mine (same demographic as yourself) just scored a sweet 1700 sq ft luxury condo in La Jolla, a few yards from the ocean.

But I wonder, he does have rich parents.

I love San Diego, however I love OC just a tad better. If you dont drive, I could see why SouthOC may be a drag. I'm in SD all the time for work. Perhaps living in the Carlsbad, Encinitas areas could be great. I would recommend going to that area for a weekend and getting the feel of it. You can always catch the commuter trains here in OC and check out the area to see if is what you want. Feel free to reach out, always happy to help. - philip / luxelife

The dating scene for OP would be better in Carlsbad? Hmm, hard to believe. I wish RGB were still around.
