I am contemplating a trip to San Diego around thanks giving break. What is the weather like generally in November? Is it warm enough to hang out at the beach? Is it sunny or is it more like June gloom? I realize San Diego just had a heat wave. I would like to know what the general trend is around thanks giving.

Typically there is no June gloom in November. It is either sunny and warm, or, less often, cold and raining. My recollection over many years is that Thanksgiving is sunny and warm (70s) more often than not. If it's sunny, hanging out at the beach will be pleasant, but most people would not enjoy actually being IN the water.

But you never know; that is the time of year when weather starts to get unpredictable. It very well could be cold and raining.

Probably will be hot and humid 80-90 degrees with 80% humidity as it has been the past 2 months!

Recall my first Thanksgiving in San Diego years ago. Sunny in the 70's. Guy at the beach cooking a turkey on a portable bbq grill right in the sand. Not like that every year though.

cold and rainy? Dang. Hope that isn't the case! I can even take cloudy at the beach but not rain. It's not that feasible to carry an umbrella up and down the beach

Well, there are other things to do in San Diego besides go to the beach.

Drive out to Anza Borrego State Park --- usually dry and warm there, and November is a beautiful time to experience the desert.

Head to Balboa Park and check out all of the cool museums.

Pull up a chair at one of our craft breweries and wile away the afternoon.

And so on...

Every year that I lived in San Diego (more than 20, less than 30), we did our Thanksgiving turkey on the barbecue in the backyard...there is your answer.

I drag the TT to the beach and we use the turkey fryer on the bird. Dinner is outside with beach front dining.
