It was bound to happen sooner or later, sad. We are inching closer and closer to replicating LA.

And sadly IB has a few nice areas and many sketchier areas. I wouldn't call them "dangerous" but there just are far too many areas in IB that will be pretty much overpriced dumps.

The gentrification wave has ravaged it's way all the way up and down the coast of CA and it looks like there's no stopping it.

Thanks for the warning.

The overbuilding of nice places turning them into money magnets is happening in cities all over the nation. People don't value quality of life anymore.

The sad part is people who live there now will have their quality of life suffer from all the construction noise on top of it. It sounds like IB will be one huge construction site. YUCK.

.....it's all about the money.

Yes it is, Greed rules at the end the day. Honesty, care for one another's well being, and the moral human nature to help others, all goes out the window as a developer. These people are the worst, they're the most selfish, cold hearted, cold blooded people you can ever imagine. Their greed blinds them, and they are destroying small quaint communities like IB, and forcing longtime residents to move out of their homes and businesses that have been their for generations. What is crazy to me, is just in the last 5-7 years, housing prices, rents and gentrification all across CA, and the nation, has taken off at an insane rate of speed.

Why didn't all this gentrification and rapid turnover of old apartment buildings that are being turned into some wannabe luxury condo conversions happen 20 years ago? Or even back in the 90's? Why now and especially the last 5 years? It's not just old apartments, but houses and commercial real estate too.

It's just odd how fast all this change is occurring. L.A. is going through this exact same thing, and SF has had it rough in recent years with their insane housing prices increases.

I clearly remember when North Park and South Park were dumpy neighborhoods, with lots of crime, drug dealers, gangs, prostitutes on the Blvd, and homeless people, Now they're completely gone. Even some of cool small mom and pop shops have been replaced by uppity hipsterish type businesses, and upscale boutiques that have de-ghettoized all of North Park. To be real here, the main reason behind it all, including what is going on in IB, is they want to remove the poor, especially Latino's, to hopefully attract more Whites with money. After all, that is what gentrification is, at same time however, the neighborhood can become sterile and homogeneous. With no diversity or different people that can contribute to the area that are on lower economic scale.

Living around a bunch of hipsters and yupps everyday, all day can become annoying I'm sure. And God, when is the Hipster Bearded guy with his plaid flannel, and nerdy shades faze, ever going to go away?

^ Real Estate/Gentrification is the new "outsourcing". America has already given up its' production to foreign countries. RE is the next to go.

I wouldn't be surprised to find foreign investors behind the IB deal.

There is no longer any "foreign" in our contemporary global economy. Just a full-on free for all cage match inclusive of anyone with a buck to leverage at any cost to sane society.

Don't worry. Eventually, they will all move to Portland, Oregon.
