I need to head north on the Coaster to Carlsbad. On the map it looks like you can practically hop on the train at the airport. Is there a shuttle that runs to the train station from the airport, or do I have to take a cab?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, you can't walk to the train station from the airport. The passenger terminals are on the side of the airport furthest from the train station and the road between them was built with cars in mind, not people.

However, there is a City bus (Route 992) that runs through the airport at about 12 minute intervals. The 2nd stop after it exits the terminal is Broadway and Kettner which is about 1 1/2 long blocks from the train station (the bus will drive by the train station before it makes its Broadway stop). If you only have one piece of luggage and it's wheeled or lightweight you could easily walk from the Broadway & Kettner stop to the train station. The fare would be $2.25.

Otherwise you could take a cab and probably pay about $5-$6. I'm not sure about some kind of direct to the train station shuttle. Probably unlikely, as we aren't a train oriented region of the country - yet.

There are two Coaster stations in Carlsbad. There is one, the Poinsettia Station, that is just south of Palomar Airport road that would be closest to the airport. The other is in the Carlsbad Village, further north of the airport. You could cab it or Uber it or I guess take a bus.

the 992 bus goes directly to the Santa Fe Station which is downtown, the above is I suppose to get to the Old Town Station...so if you don't want to walk far just go to the Santa Fe Station for the same fare.

For Carlsbad the Poinsettia station is pretty close, Ive certainly walked it though not with luggage. I would bet one of the busses goes by it in the morning or afternoon (the bus schedules in Carlsbad cater to commuters only at certain hours) but its probably a taxi...

taxis are a lot more expensive in Carlsbad than downtown. In my experince.

It's so ridiculous that the trolley doesn't go to the airport, even though it's less than 2 miles from downtown.

I learned something about why the trolley doesn't go to the airport. Apparently, Harbor Drive is built on landfill, and that sort of road bed isn't strong enough to support the weight of the trolleys.

What I wonder is if the new terminals being built will allow for a trolley stop along the current line, with some kind of Airport shuttle/tram from that stop to the various terminals and gates. Believe me, Transportation planners fully grasp the stupidity of the trolley not going to the airport.

On the bus map, the 992 goes down Broadway, and the Santa Fe station is on C Street, a little over a block away. Perhaps there is a stop that's not shown on the map.

The Santa Few station (and the associated trolley stop) are between C and Broadway. The 922 stops on Broadway. I don't know if it also stops on C.
