Hey All -

So I just received an offer, and believe I will be accepting a job to move to San Diego (proposed start date September 1st). Looking for some recommendations in the San Diego area from people who know it best.

About Me:

30 / M / Single
Income: $150k/year

Currently living in Alexandria, VA - which has worked out extremely well. I have visited San Diego but have not spent a lot of time out there. I would like to try to keep my commute within a half hour or so - the office is located right by Montgomery-Gibbs executive airport.

The ideal town for me would be a very "walkable" beach town. I'd love to be right by the beach and water, and be able to walk to different things right in the area (ranging from Cafe's to Bars etc.). I don't currently have a dog, but would hope to get one. So a dog friendly area is a bonus but not a super strict requirement.

It doesn't have to be a super upscale area, more of a focus on local things to do (bands playing, good restaurants, etc). Something similar to the Belmont Shore area would be great

Thank you guys in advance

Bird Rock / North PB sounds perfect for you. However, if you're working normal business hours, getting in and out of that area could make for a long commute time.

Beach to Montgomery Field would be more than half hour commute.

Beach communities like Encinitas and Cardiff would be a schlep to Kearny Mesa, but Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach (great dog beach and dog park there), and Point Loma wouldn't be too bad of a commute. I'd start there.

Since you only have basically 30 days before your start date, are you coming out soon in order to check out places. Rental situation here is extremely tight.

Not really anything in SD that is "walkable" with bars and stores and yada yada. OB but transient central. San Diego is a compromise.
