Extreme rain followed by early heat. A lot of bugs will be early this year, most certainly termites and probably ticks. We saw a desert swarm of small crane flies yesterday too.

Somewhere close to you, there's lots of water.

I have a pond on my property. I've got literally tens of thousands of them coming out now. It's a normal cycle.

Yeah, me too. And I was told it was a mayfly.

A bit of googling shows that (a) it is in fact a crane fly, as earlier identified, and (b) crane flies' reputation for eating mosquitoes is not true. :-(

We have them in Canada too during the summer. They can be a pain buzzing around inside the tractor cab on the farm.
