ok well i got a speeding ticket few days ago

It was for 83 in a 65.. in NJ u dont get pulled over for 83 in 65, maybe 85.. but he said he "paced" me, and i was going 83.. i always stick to 80ish so maybe he was right/wrong.. i'll never know..

anyway i have a NJ license and i need to find a lawyer who can make sure this doesnt get back to NJ or i'll get points and my insurance will sky rocket.. i have a clean record as it is now, and i really dont want my insurance to rape me (i am young with an expensive car, and they are already raping me for $3k/yr)

Does anyone know any good traffic attorneys? and how bad is 83 in 65 in cali?

In NJ, you would just take a plea bargain, pay, and not get any points

Speeding is Speeding is Speeding. Whether the guy next to you was going 10 MPH faster or you were going just slightly over.

The idea of "pacing" is interesting haven't seen that too much, normally they get a reading on their gun. If you seek a lawyer you may be able to challenge that. I'm a young Californian maybe the pacing method is common.

I would contact the DMV first with the point question- you may be able to pay a fine and take a class and be on your way.

I know speeding is speeding, i just didnt think 80 is a big deal in a major highway.. i was not being a hazard to anyone, and everyone does go 80.. ive been driving since 17, now 24, and i drove on NJ turnpike everyday for years, and i set cruise at 80~ and never got one ticket..

my idea of speeding tickets is when someone is being reckless, going 60 in a 30, or flying past everyone.. im on the last lane, 11pm, cruising at 80 and i get a ticket.. i dont fully agree with that..

and yes he said he "paced" me, and he was following me for miles.. oh well

and usa should follow other countries where the cops dont camp and try to pace u for going 83 in 65.. . theres crimes being committed and im being flagged down for 80+ in a 65.. oh well, im not complaining i love USA

unless you got a 2 point ticket, i don't think paying a lawyer is really going to help you. my mom got a speeding ticket in south carolina a while back and it ended up getting back to the CA DMV. it looks like you're out of luck in NJ and will get 2 points no matter what:
State of New Jersey - Motor Vehicle Commission

To keep it off your license, you'll have to pay the ticket, plus do traffic school, and expect the fine to be at least $400. You can do traffic school online, and it's under $20. That's what I did when I got pulled over for an illegal left turn. I did the online class and the answers are right there. When I took the test, I had to print it out, get it notarized, and mail it to the company that does the class. They mailed me a certificate with my passing score on it, I took it to the traffic court office, and paid it at the same time. You can also request extensions.

if you have time before you go back to NJ you can contest the ticket in front of a judge and hope the officer doesn't show up, but that is unlikely and it will be his word against yours. to add to that, i've never heard of a speeding ticket being dismissed. since you were paced, you can't even use the argument that his radar gun was inaccurate. you got caught and unfortunately will now to deal with the consequences. also, if you do decide to go the lawyer route, i'm not sure you'd really see significant cost savings. being billed $500/hour by a lawyer versus an extra $50/month in insurance for a couple of years will be probably be a wash in the long run.

83 in a 65 zone is a huge deal. Get over it, there is nothing you can do. What is practiced in other countries isn't what is practiced here. If you are paying 3K for insurance, I don't even what to know what kind of coverage you have or what kind of car you drive..

You certainly are not going to get much sympathy from many on this board. let's hope you don't get another ticket while you drive across country, back to NJ. Or are you living in Ca now, with a NJ license?
There is no way you will get it dismissed..

Nita

I've also never heard of a speeding ticket being dismissed, and I doubt if they'll even reduce it. Since you got caught with a radar gun, you can't contest it, because it won't do any good. You got caught speeding, now you have to pay the price to keep it off your license. Try to be more careful, because CA isn't like NJ, and they want $$.

yes i moved to CA, and i still have my NJ license.. No 83 in a 65 is not a huge deal.. i was going 80.. i go 80 in 65 all my life.. tons of people go 80 in a 65 i dont know how you are saying its a huge deal... you gotta be kidding me

I dont want your sympathy, all im saying is MANY people drive ~80ish on major highways all over USA and they are fine.. max limit in 99% of highways in USA is 65, and people dont go 65, or 70, they go 80..

Im paying 3k because my car/license/insurance is in NJ, its a $40k car, and i am 24, and i have comprehensive/collision coverage on it
