It's about 500 miles away from being perfect.

DTSD is okay, optimally between bustling & quiet. Homeless issues are a problem.
Why here and what specifically do you want to do there (provide direct answer without drawing trolling analogies to dtSJ)??

Thanks. Change of scenery, lots of women, nice weather and staying downtown because downtown is THE LIVING ROOM of the city. It's also centrally located and has adequate transportation to other areas of the city to visit and explore. I like being downtown in any city, not out in suburb or outlying areas.

DTSD is what you make of it, and it all depends on what you want.

The Gaslamp area is still full of restaurants and lots of crowds in the evenings. Little Italy is also a great dining area within walking or trolley distance of the Gaslamp. Sadly Horton Plaza is not doing well. There are a couple of good live theaters in the Gaslamp, Spreckles, the Balboa and the Rep also goes by the Lyceum.

I recall a boutique eyewear shop and more near the convention center.
