Yes, please post the name of your solar company. Lots of people have done the same. You're not selling for the company. You're just saying you had a good experience with this company.

Is the 'svt' in your name a reference to Ford SVT?

So in 7 years 93% higher.

We got estimates a few years back and at the time, one of the sales guys from a company told us that our break even point would be later than the average person's and therefore they didn't think it was worth it (which I found surprisingly honest). We didn't use enough energy to justify it then. Also, there wasn't a big push for batteries at that point like what I hear there is now. I'm curious if this is even a thing anymore when solar companies put together an estimate.

It's too bad that SDGE's attempt to screw solar owners is only going to result in more going to systems with storage capability thus negating their strategy.

San Diego's top tier rate is ~ 7x the southwest Washington state rate, where we have one, and only one, base rate: .08 kWh. Our power utility is nonprofit; a lot of electricity is generated by dams along the Columbia river, i.e. renewable.

Our WA electricity bill of around $90 a month would probably be $540 to $630 in San Diego, or an increase of $5400 to $6480 annually, and we did pay on average $500 to $600 a month in the late spring through mid-fall in San Diego. That massive increase is health insurance premiums, or some college tuition, or a nice vacation, stolen every year by SDG&E gouging.

SDG&E has to pay a "cap & trade" fee per kWh which they build into the rates. Additionally, peaker plants which run an hour or two a day are more costly to operate than base load plants. Those Tier 2 and Tier 3 rates cover those higher peaker plant costs, not unlike how higher tiers of water use are based off of the cost of desalination.
