We had to put screens on our french doors due to the mosquito problem, it is out of control right now.

My feet, ankles and lower calves have multiple bite marks from over the past week. I can't even remember the last time (if ever) this has happened.

Our FD's needed to be replaced anyway because of damage the kids did to them when they were younger including damaged internal blinds and lots of dings and dents , but we opted for sliding with screen because of the mosquitos even though the FD's are so much nicer.

We bought the retractable screens that go outside of the doors - love it!

The mosquitos are so bad this weekend that they are biting in the morning thanks to the cool moist air.

Also, I was at a concert last week at the Chula Vista Amphitheatre, we were getting bit up during the show.

The mosquitos in South OC are beyond unbearable. We've always been able to spend as much time as we like outside and never see a mosquito. Last year was the first time in my over 50 years in OC that we got mosquito bites in our own back yard. This year, it is worse. If I want to water for a few minutes, pick some vegetables from my garden or even just take out the trash, I have to put on repellent or I get bitten. I went to a restaurant in Lake Forest and sat out on the patio; got so many bites on my legs that the next day it hurt to walk. I'm really unhappy about this because I fear they are here to stay.

Do you think climate change is to blame?

No, my understanding is that they are a new, invasive variety that needs only small puddles to breed in, and whose eggs do not die when the water dries up but just go dormant until it is wet again. Nothing to do with climate change. I heard that this variety was accidentally introduced from China but I haven’t done that research.

We have plenty this summer in L.A. County as well.

West Nile virus infections are on the rise this year in California after a particularly wet winter led to more mosquito reproduction, according to health experts.

The state had 55 human cases of the virus as of Aug. 25.
