Holy cow, 35 grand? I do my own work and I realize not everyone can but man, that's a lot of cash. I think I did my kitchen with appliances for less than 10 but that was 15 years ago and took me about 3 months of weekends and after work.

I paid about $35k for a kitchen remodel back in the 90s. It was a complete remodel. The walls and the floor were bare.

My old neighbor told me a rule-of-thumb: a complete kitchen remodel costs the same as a new Cadillac. Back in the 90s, a new Cadillac cost about $35k.

Today, a new Cadillac car runs about a $50k. That Cadillac price makes your kitchen remodel sound cheap.

Many people watch shows on HGTV and do not realize the remodel prices are not real. The buyer benefits and the show does and contractors and suppliers as well when people want to do the same thing in their own remodel.
