Are there neighborhoods where I can ride my bike safely (9-speed urban/hybrid bike, Raleigh Redux, not a road bike), run, or walk for exercise?

As a separate item, are there any neighborhoods where I can do so safely at night? I'm a night owl and typically get off work late.

Still on my quest to find a new place to live. Have been very thorough and even found a nice DOT noise map. This is one of the last criteria I haven't been able to figure out. Thank you for the continued help and advice...

Take your pick. Most all of them are safe. I live in a sub division of Clairemont and have rode my bike at night and commuted for so long I've forgotten when I started. Good headlights are a must because our roads suck. Pothole central.

I have a stable of bikes ranging from Trek Speed Concept down to my commuters that have flat safe tires that I use at night. No time for changing flats on the way to work in the dark.

I've had no problems in South Park but I wouldn't recommend antone to run at night in any neighborhood today no matter how safe it supposedly is

Fillmore,

By safety, do you mean safety from crime or safety from cars?

By night, do you mean pre-Midnight or post-Midnight?

If you are taking a walk around the block in a residential area at night, pretty much all of SD is safe enough for that.

Now on the other hand if you are going on a 3-5 mile run, running down arterial streets, parks, commercial areas, etc, I honestly think that in a whole lot of SD areas, you're going to encounter something sketchy after about 10pm
