An informal survey...

In which neighborhoods (south of I-8) would a single woman feel comfortable walking alone at night?

I wouldn't advise a single woman to walk alone anywhere after dark. So to answer your question - none.

My sis works the late shift as an ER nurse, she lives with me in Normal Heights. . .she carries Mace & a small knife just in case. She was attacked several times in Indianapolis late at night walking to her car before she moved here. . . . not had any problems here. just look around you & be aware of who's behind/ beside you, as in any urban area. You'll be ok.

>consider carrying a stun gun. Go to YouTube and search it there. Lots of good vids on the subject

>consider carrying a taser gun. Consider purchasing the C2 taser gun by Taser International. It looks nothing like a taser gun. It even comes in pink

>no hype: knives are huge in San Diego. Lots of non-gangster type people carry a pocket knife. I could tell you stories about the plethora of knife fights I've read about that did not involve a gang member

>layered protection is the way to go. Layer yourself with a can or two of pepper spray, a stun or taser gun and maybe a knife. Practice using the pepper spray against a tree or a wall in the park or somewhere. Be aware that pepper spray works well, but it is not failure proof. Someone jacked up on meth might be able to circumvent it. Get a holster for the taser gun, don't keep it in a pocket or your purse

>do you need to be out late at night? For excercise? Then get a bicycle. At least that way you'd be able to flea fast, through alleyways and side streets if it came to that. Think of it this way: being on a bicycle at 3am in the morning will increase your chances of survival tenfold than if you were on foot

>if you're attacked, always tell your attacker you're pregnant. (This will not work if you look like a bull dyke.) That might up your chances for survival, and it might even stop the attacker in his tracks
