just checked the water temps and Scripps Pier is already up to 67! With the heat expected this weekend looks like it's gonna be a GREAT beach weekend, that 60 degree water a few weeks ago was just to cold to handle for more than 2 minutes. Hopefully the water temp will stay up there and go higher so we don't get too much June gloom or any at all, which does happen some years.

Water temps are definitely rising fast - yippee!! Mission Beach is now reporting 66 degrees. Add 3 or 4 more degrees and those numbers and I'm good to go. Isn't it unusual for water temps to be this warm so early? Let's hope they're up in the mid-70's during the peak of summer!?!

Yeah it does seem a little early, but I have seen them up there this early before but doesn't happen that often. I remember the last PB Block Party they had the water was about this warm and that was in Mid May I think about 2 or 3 years ago. I just hope they at least stay up there and hopefully go higher instead of going back down, which I've seen before too, which can lead to crappy June gloom conditions.

It's crazy to get this much rain in late May, but I'll take this over May Gray anyday!!

I like it when it rains down here, it's a nice change and we always seems to need it and it's definitely better than the mind numbingly boring May Gray, at least if the weather is gonna be crap might as well rain. BUT did it have to be stormy on Memorial Day weekend? any other non holiday weekend would have been fine b/c I was really looking forward to the beach again after last weekend.

also sdurbanite, I noticed a "Weather" forum on C-D about week ago so if you want to geek out and talk weather they got plenty of other weather geeks in there, like me. haha

Being at the beach at Coronado yesterday afternoon (Memorial Day) was more like the beach is on Christmas Day--a few joggers and walkers, everyone bundled up in sweatshirts and sweat pants--it was kind of nice, though, but quite different from the normal Memorial Day crowd.

^^I'm just thankful that it was sunny for much of the time. Don't forget that this is the cloudiest time of the year, and it could have easily been overcast for the entire weekend. I don't think this year's May Gray has been bad at all.

It's safe to say that May Gray turned out to be a bust! Yippee!! I recall having only 3 gloomy days in a row at most, with less than a few cloudy days in between.

Let's hope that June Gloom ends up the same way.
