Attended a game where Winfield was playing center, threw a STRIKE to the plate. No bounce or hop, just a rifle shot from the warning track, to get the runner. Don't remember if the catcher got the tag, but the throw, the throw...THAT was a thing of beauty. Not a "rainbow" but a line that didn't rise above the "green wall." I didn't know a human was capable of this. I was totally impressed (like the rest of the stands.) I played outfield, so I could appreciate the effort. That's my "Winfield" story.

A 400+' rocket, that didn't rise above the green wall. Amazing, just AMAZING.

Jerry even "Hung a Star" on that one.

There's a hungry landfill somewhere that needs them more.

Gotta wonder if that plastic is recyclable...

I attended the only game that the Padres won in the 1984 World Series. I was still a hardcore Dodgers fan, so I was thrilled to see Steve Garvey, my favorite player (next to Tony Gwynn) repping the Padres.

Such a waste...
Indeed. Could have used them for some sort of fundraising/charity like they did with Candlestick Park.

In what world is $299 per pair affordable to the broadest swathe of the general public?

Tell me about it! I was going to say "$10 apiece."

I guess SDSU wants to make a profit.

Just goes to show how outta touch academia is.
